"Tact is the ability to describe others as they see themselves."
-- Abraham Lincoln --Got some kind of bug from Richard, which, according to his doctor, is NOT a form of flu . . . or a cold
Sneezing and sniffles and a dry cough to begin with, some nausea and vomiting, with nothing sitting well on the stomach, lack of appetite and energy, mild fever -- all of which plays havoc with the blood sugar levels if you're diabetic on top of it (which I am) -- has finally progressed to some diarhrea which is causing some mild dehydration on top of everything else. Have been eating ice cream since it's about the only thing that wants to sit well on the touchy stomach (sugared ice cream so I'll have some carbohydrates to regulate the blood sugars). Unfortunately I ran out yesterday evening . . . and then I did the really, incredibly STUPID part -- I went to bed with indications of low blood sugar

and woke up just a while ago, cold, sweating, disoriented and shaking. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID thing to do!!!
If you don't know about diabetes it ain't high blood sugar that'll kill you (well, it will eventually if you don't regulate it as it destroys the functions of other organs and such). LOW blood sugar is what will do you in quickly.
The only thing I can possibly use as an excuse is this
bug has me not thinking straight

this bug has really got my blood sugars doing weird things -- they were at 62 this afternoon (Richard thinks I was in low blood sugar delirium) and they should be about 150 for a diabetic . . . a non-diabetic is supposed to be about 100. After eating half a large Snickers bar it went up to 83 and Richard told me I became coherent again (I have since had a cup of hot tea with 3 spoons of turbinado sugar and a naval orange -- and, I think, I'm writing this journal sensibly now).
I've been having a problem with severe neuropathy pains recently and taking more alpha lipoic acid to alleviate them as I'm one of the lucky people that is sensitive to it's benefits -- but it also has the tendency to lessen the amount of insulin a diabetic needs to control blood sugars so Richard wants me to NOT give myself a shot of insulin this evening. I may have to cut my doses of insulin on a regular basis.

To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice~Confucius
Creo ergo sumI'm usually very careful about dealing with low blood sugar -- and this is the first time I've ever gone to bed with it that way.
